What’s here

WhimTrav’s map combines places from OpenStreetMap with places from U.S. federal and state agencies. Because we combine and clean these together, we share the combined public layer with everyone under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. Each file is GeoJSON, gzip-compressed; every record says where it came from.

Credits

Contains information from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Also contains information from Recreation.gov, the USDA Forest Service, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Geological Survey (PAD-US, the National Structures Dataset and GNIS), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (including the Facility Registry Service), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, HIFLD, the Small Business Administration and state agencies including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the South Florida Water Management District, the Kansas Department of Transportation, the Montana Department of Transportation and Caltrans (rest areas, Creative Commons Attribution 4.0), the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (state park dump stations) and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Dump stations marked “likely” are WhimTrav’s own inference, not confirmed: state rules require a sanitary dump station at RV parks (Fla. Admin. Code r. 64E-15.004(5); Minn. R. 4630.0900; 18 AAC 30.430 (Alaska); 20 CAR § 138-105(d) (Arkansas); La. Admin. Code tit. 51, § XVI-1101(I); NAC 444.5466(4) (Nevada); 216-RICR-50-10-3 § 3.5.2 (Rhode Island)), applied to RV parks already in this data, and RV parks that hold a federal (EPA) wastewater permit — such dump stations are usually for guests and may charge a fee. The food layer also contains a few places from the Overture Maps Foundation (data from Meta, Microsoft or BrightQuery, available under the Community Data License Agreement – Permissive 2.0). No claim to original U.S. Government works. These sources provide their data as-is and do not endorse WhimTrav.

What’s not in these files

Data we license from other companies, chain store lists, and anything our users add or keep private — trips, saved places, reviews, votes and RV profiles — is not part of the open data. Place corrections users suggest may be added after review, as our Terms of Service explain.

Licence and rights

Licence. This database is made available under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0. The ODbL covers this database as a whole and the rights JB-AI Productions and OpenStreetMap contributors hold in it (© OpenStreetMap contributors).

Government records. Records from U.S. federal agencies are U.S. Government works. No claim to original U.S. Government works. Records from state and local agencies contain only factual information (location, type of site and a public name). We claim no rights in those facts and grant none beyond what the law and each source allow.

Other licences that travel with a record. Records whose license field is CC-BY-4.0 are also available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 with the credit in their credit field. Records from the Overture Maps Foundation are also under CDLA-Permissive-2.0 (licence text). Keep each record’s source, credit and license fields when you redistribute.

No endorsement; as is. No source agency endorses this data. It is provided as is, may be wrong or out of date, and is not for navigation. Inferred records are marked confidence: "likely" or “inferred” and are not confirmed.

Older copies. Files dated before 2026-10-04 contained some fields we were not licensed to share. Please replace older copies with the current files.

Using the data

You may copy, share and adapt the data under the ODbL: keep the attribution, share any adapted database under the same license, and keep it open. The data is provided as-is; check conditions and access before you travel, and don’t use it for navigation. Questions or corrections: support@whimtrav.com.
